ABOUT THE ARTIST
As a child Richard lived in Luton's suburbia and grew up
trapping birds, collecting eggs and catching butterflies.
Weekend family outings and camping holidays brodened his
interests to include fishing and falconry and years later
he took up shooting. The Jack Hargreaves TV program Out
Of Town was a great influence during his early years
and all this involvement with sport has lead to one
of his main passions, conservation. For instance Richard's
work has raised thousands of Dollars for the Arctic Salmon
Federation's work in Canada.
"I was never that academic at school" he says
"but loved art and the only way I could express my
interests in nature was to draw it. I've always been a natural
drawer, doodling and sketching on anything with anything.
As a professional for the last twenty-five years, he has
experimented with most mediums and has developed his own
methods with acrylics. "Many paintings I still execute
with some experimentation. Working out large abstract forces
and rhythms gradually rendering them to conclusion".
His paintings have reached audiences the world over and
he has a
large international client list. He is also much respected
by his
fellow artists. Most of his subject matter stems from his
back
doorstep. This is wherever he may be. Be it his parent's
home in
Norfolk his keeper's cottage in Hertfordshire, or while
staying at
Nature in Art in Gloucestershire.
Water is a favorite subject (and the animals that use it
for a home)
and his involvement with subject matter in the Everglades
and a
Fort Lauderdale gallery in Florida has broadened his horizons
with
colour and light .
